  1. can someone help me, i cant get the files that i converted, from m2v to mpeg using tmpgenc, to play using media player, the video is just black there isnt any error, the audio works fine. it works with anything else, like powerdvd, but not media player, it played before with media player. i dont know what it is maybe its a setting or something i installed may have screwed it up. does anyone have any idea what the video is black? also on some of them it says 4 s packets cause buffer underflow. what does that mean? and how can i fix it?

  2. the problem is the MPEG2 file... Windows media player normally isnt capable to read MPEG2 files... BUT, there are all sorts of plugins that allow WMP to read MPEG2's(but to be honest, they screw your computer up).

    (MPEG2 Codec for WMP: http://www.maximusdvd.com/freedvdcodecs.htm)

    I suggest u get a special MPEG2 player

Elecard MPEG2 Player works fine for me, you can find a demo here:

    from m2v to mpeg
...but m2v is an mpeg 2 video stream. No need to convert. If you want mpeg1 (m1v) run it thru tmpgenc (provided you have PowerDVD installed, to let tmpgenc read m2v streams) and encode as mpeg1.

  5. i'm sorry i dont know the difference between converting and encoding. i used tmpgenc, went to mpeg tools i did simple multiplex and opened the m2v then for the type i set as mpeg 1 automatic. is that converting or encoding?

That's neither. Thats multiplexing. There's more to converting an mpeg2 to an mpeg1 stream than a simple remultiplex, which in effect will give you an m2v stream with m1v headers. Used to fool DVD players that can't play SVCD that it's a VCD mpeg stream it's reading.
You got to reencode the m2v to m1v, using the same procedure as AVI to MPEG1/VCD.

  8. ok but is TMPGEnc the safest way to convert m2v to mpeg. or is there another software thats safer and wont cause any errors?

TMPGEnc is one of the best mpeg1 encoders there is, and it's free to boot. The input format doesn't matter, as long as it can be read by the encoder, and TMPGEnc can read mpeg2 if you got PowerDVD installed.

I've seen these errors from time 2 time too, but simply ignored them. I guess there's something wrong with the source file in these cases.
