  2. Get the pioneer DV-343. I got it and it plays everything with no problems.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

  3. Pioneer is definetly a good choice. I got two (DV-333 and DV-343 which are quite identical). Those play anything you throw at it (up to 2500Kbps).
If you click on DVD Players at the left column here, you will find that Pioneer DV-333 and DV-343 are the two best rated DVD players (for DVD/VCD,SVCD,XVCD playing)

Just saying one thin BUY the Pioneer!!!!
After reading this forum back and forth when i was hunting for a DVD i finally deside me for buying a Pioneer and all i can say is this thing plays everything!!!
Im suerly glad i didnt buy a Sony as i first wanted to. My friend has one and it sucks. He gets glitches in every VCD he tries to play.
And some he cant play at all.
If anybody wants to know i bought the 535 model and it rocks.....

Does the Pioneer have 1) an EXCELLENT-READING ROM DRIVE? and 2) work with VBR MPEG-1?

If it does, my Apex goes back to the store, and I grab me a Pioneer 343!

  8. 1) yes. especially compared to the apex, which is one of the crappiest drives.

    2) i'm pretty sure, but not 100%

One more thing (now I'm a bit scared)...

Does the 343 play VCD's, SeVCD, XVCD, SVCD burned with NERO?

I'd be wasting my time to get one, if it doesn't play them. I ONLY burn using NERO...

EDIT: Sorry about that one. I jumped the gun. I read a post here (DVD PLayer Section) where more tha one persone said that the Pioneer won't play VCD's, SVCD's from NERO correctly, but it's actually a problem with multiplexing, and I do it the correct way, so no worries...

BUT: I'm now a bit worried on LOWER bitrate stuff (like movies which drop to 0 and then jump back again)... anyone out there using Sefy's template?

  10. You should buy the Pioneer 434 and be set for digital TV.
Aprox the same price. Plays my SVCD's burned with Nero with no problem.

Answer: yes, it does. I use Nero to burn all those discs and both Pioneer DV-333 and DV-343 play fine.

Ok, I just bought a Sanyo DWM370, and it has it's good points. It plays noncompliant VCDs better than compiant VCDs. I was playing some Rugrats' episodes which were capture with the VCD (realtime at 1123 Kbps) and the Sanyo will occasionally stutter/repeat a scene (kind of annoying).
Anyways, I am willing to give the Pioneer another try, but I can't help but get over the Pioneer 343 that I tested out at Circuit City yesterday. Does this DVD player need to be set up properly in order to play certain VCDs b/c this one was playing my VCD slowly. The Sanyo is nice and a decent player but I want a DVD player that will play VCDs properly whether they are at 1123 or 2500 Kbps. Does 1123 Kbps tend to skip? How would the Pioneer handles a VCD with this set that I have-
    Nero 5.5 noncompliant VCD- (352x240)1150Kbps, 44100/224(Audio)
