I just got the new version of ffmpegX, and decided to give making an SVCD a whirl. (i've failed in the past) I used OSex to rip a DVD to elementary streams. I then attempted to mux the M2V and AC3 together into a standard SVCD with ffmpegX's 'tools' section. The terminal started, then gave me garbage. I will have the exact terminal output in a later post.
On a related note, is DVD -> .VOB -> .MPG -> SVCD the best way to go? My only successful DVD rip was with swingers using the quicktime/mutator method...but my audio wasn't in sync. As someone who has never really created a working svcd, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Kaneda,
Had some problems with ffmpegX also.
Did you install the Mpeg2enc?
I've printed the manual for ffmpegX now and will give it one more try.
Do the same as me, you'll find the manual in this forum.
it was put there today (ffmpeg user manual v0.1c).
Good luck...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you simply ripped the elementary streams and are trying to mux the streams together to make an SVCD, this will not work. Neither the video nor the audio stream are ready to be muxed yet. You have to convert (or transcode?) the video stream and convert the ac3 audio stream first, before muxing. The elementary video stream should be converted/transcoded to 2500 kbps mpeg2 video at 480x480 (for NTSC), and the audio needs to be converted from ac3 to mp2 (224 kbps 44.1khz stereo). THEN you can mux them together, splitting if necessary to fit onto 2 CD's. Check out the other tabs in ffmpegx and the ffmpegx manual posted somewhere in this forum.
Also, check out AfroPic -- it does better with NTSC sources which change rates.
I apologize if you've already done this steps and I'm telling you something you already know.

I've ripped audio and video into 1 .VOB file, Progressive stream.
Under Video:
Used NTSC 23.976 film as parameter.
Under audio:
Audio as 224 bitrate, 44100 Hz, stereo.
Under Mpeg1/4:
QMin 2 - QMax 15, epzs, GOP 240
Under VCD/SVCD:
Bicubic scaling, VOB letterbox, XSVCD option, not interlaced. VBV 230 KB, Qmin 4
Under Tools:
Mux as....SVCD, Postprocess (checked).
----------------------------------------------
Muxed File that comes out is out of sync.
When i do the same movie with MissingMpegTools everything is OK and in sync.
Do i do anything wrong?
Thanks...
