  1. Perhaps the topic sounds silly. Here I have some movies as SVCD's burnt on CD-Rs. I would like to "extract" the MPEG-files from those CDs, add some menus, music and such things and finally burn them again as SVCDs.

Can I just use the MPEG-file in that folder on the CD which can be accessed by the Explorer? Do I get a loss in quality? Or must I convert it somehow? If so, how?

THX in advance and happy new year!

Just to provide a little more information, VCDEasy has a front-end to the vcdxrip tool from vcdimager. It will extract all of the files necessary to recreate the SVCD (including the MPEG) and generate a vcdimager XML file.

  4. Thank you for your answers!
I will try it with the program you proposed if there's no other way.
Why can't I simply take the file in the folder [CD-ROM]:\MPEG2\AVSEQ01.MPG? Or can I?

Sometimes that file can be simply copied, other times people get an error when they try, I'm not sure why. In any case, if you do just copy the file (or if you copy the .DAT from a VCD) it isn't really an MPEG, it's an MPEG with extra RIFF headers because it's actually stored on the disc as mode2.

Windows Media Player (and some other players) will play it just fine that way, but you probably won't be able to create a new SVCD without stripping those headers out. vcdxrip does that for you at the same time it extracts everything.
