  1. What VCR or DVD/VCR would you recommend to use to defeat VHS Macrovision? I need to buy one and am hoping one is available at "X"-Mart. If anyone has had any successful captures with their Macrovision cursed VHS and holy VCR please provide me a name or link to the VCR. My setup will be as follows: Tape>VCR>component cables>ATI ALL IN WONDER CARD>Virtualdub. Thank you.

Macrovision is on the tape. Your ATI AIW detects the macrovision. You need to search for disableatimacrovision.exe.
May the force be with you.

  3. I'm not sure that exists. And I must have worded that wrong using "without macrovision." I meant a VCR that does not detect Macrovision and does not react to it. I google'd and went to download.com to search for "macrovision" or "ATI macrovision" but couldn't find a patch. I found this link where someone says "There is no way to "hack" the ATI card to defeat Macrovision."

Forgive me if I misinterpret the
    question.
I don't think you can buy a vcr today that doesn't react to macrovision.(find an old one).
    Or,
Get yourself some sort of box to
    defeat the Macrovision.
    There's many different devices available.

actually I have a Sony SLV-eZ77 that ignores the macrovision signal

It cheerfully allows ATi card to cap without issues

It's been discontinued in Australia now though..... but you might find something similar - the only thing is they are hard to test for
it's not exactly something you can rock into a shop with a PC under your arm

I have a JVC HR-DVS2U dual miniDV SHVS tape deck with a firewire port. I can transfer macrovision VHS tapes to my hard drive through the firewire port without macrovision artifacts. I have to enable TBC (Time Based Correction) on the VCR though.

This tape deck can't be had cheaply or at "X-mart" but they do sell for about $500 on ebay. A couple of years ago they were $1700 new.

You'll need to get a tape deck such as the one above, certain old VCRs as was mentioned above, or a separate TBC box. In all cases you'll need to make sure that the deck or box won't stop a transfer when they sense a macrovision signal. I had a Sony GV-D200 (Digital 8 deck) that wouldn't allow a firewire transfer of a macrovision VHS tape that was played in a VCR connected to the deck.

I hear you can pick up quasi-TBC boxes for cheap $100-$300.
