haveing trouble playing some downloaded avi's anybody else?

have new computer xp 2.6gh p4....
are there some new codes that I haven't got for this computer....never had this problem with old slow computer...
have downloaded all the dixv code's(3.11,4,5) and nimo code pack....
most movies I download will not play.....just a black screen....sometimes with green in it.....

thanks for the reply ABAB.......tryed downloading the codes from the links in the thread.....still won't work......
is this a windows xp thing or something else??????

anybody know what XXXX or XXXXX means....I've seen these in some of the titles I've been trying to download and open......

IF the movies are using an xvid codec (right click on the movie and select properties, then go to the summary tab) you may need to change the codec it uses. You can do this by installing the xvid codec, go into the folder where it installed and open the AviC.exe file. Open the movies you're having problems with and change both drop boxes to say "divx". This solved my problem, which sounds similiar to yours.
