I downloaded two 3D clips from YouTube after watching them using a pair of red/blue glasses. When I played the 1080p MP4 which were downloaded using keepvid, the 3D effect is gone and I have two screens of the same pic playing though squeezed. I know they use two lenses (cameras?) in the making of 3D. Just didn't realize that it will show both shots side-by-side when downloaded/played. I guess, my question is how the file was encoded/uploaded so YouTube is able to play the 3D. Anyway, I will just use my screen capture.

It uses the encoder in the youtube player itself to do the anaglyph conversion on the fly.

    You either have to:

1 - reencode each file to anaglyph using avisynth and virtualdub to get a file that is completely anaglyph

    or

2 - buy the steroscopic player that will do the conversion on the fly itself from any sbs (side by side) source - top to bottom or side by side.

other than that you can just keep watching it on youtube without downloading the file and use youtube's player to play in the anaglyph format of your choice.

edit - the screen capture idea might work. i hadn't thought of that route. That should preserve what is on the screen.

However you might get ghosting artificats and the 3d effect might be distorted in some unforseen way.

Reencoding it or using the stereoscopic player (payware by the way) will ensure a true anaglyphic 3d playback.

    Thanks for the response.

When you mentioned avisynth, I got goosebumps. I don't have that much time left in my life to learn that software I'll just watch them at Youtube. I have not tried the screen capture yet. It can wait.

The screen capture might work just fine. I'm just saying there might be unforseen errors or possible jumpiness with a screen cap as compared to a true anaglyph encoded file or realtime conversion of sbs material (again with a 3d player like stereoscopic player or like we have said keep watching with youtubes 3d modes).

Avisynth is overwhelming at first. I am just in the beginning stages of using it. With a lot of hand holding I've started using it for 3d material. Mostly last fall. Lots of help from regular members cornucopia - a 3d god in my opinion and jagabo and jman98 if I remember correctly (both excellent members of this forum - I can't call them a 3d god like cornucopia but how about avisynth gods? would that work?).
