  1. Ok. Here's the situation. I have several VCDs that I would like to move onto DVD-R. The original tapes were destroyed, but I still have the AVI files which were captured at 352x240.

Now, I see that you can put VCD format video on DVD-R, but I want it in actual DVD (half D1, 352x480) format so that I can put other DVD-format material on the same disc. I know that the quality will not be better when resizing up like that, but will I lose a lot by resizing? Since I can go from the original Huffy AVI files, I shouldn't have a problem with MPEG-1 to MPEG-2 blockiness.

Since you captured in 352x240, there is no way to 'increase the resolution'. You can letterbox it, but it will look bad. Your only real choice is VCD, since you are alread in that resolution. You can try a KVCD for higher bitrates to get higher quality, especially if you have a huffyuv capture

352x240 is a valid resolution for DVD. I have converted 352x240 SVCD's to DVD,it works. If you encode your avi to SVCD 352x240 it will import in DVD authorware,I use SppruceUp. Just make sure the audio is sampled at 48000 when you create the DVD. Leave the resolution at it's original 352x240.
