  1. I have just begun exploring the different options for making personal backup copies of DVDs... So far I have tried a couple of backups with DVDXCOPY and I am relatively pleased. I did have one that didn't burn the second disk successfully, but I figure that is going to happen sometimes... It won't play in my DVD on my cpu or DVD player, so I am guessing it's just a mis-burn.

Anyway, my question is regarding the preservation of 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround... If I use a method other than DVDXCOPY, will I still be able to get this or no? If I could then I could prevent using 2 discs for every copy I make and in the long run probably save myself some cash doing it - but I would rather spend the little extra and save it as well...

    Any thoughts?

I see a lot of people recommending DVD Decryptor and I was wondering about the results with this with the sound. LIke I said, I am a newbie, so I am sorry if this is a stupid question.

    Thanks!

i don't think anyone was avoiding your question .. its just that your exact question is unclear on what you are asking .

i suggest reading some guides "dvd ripping" and your answer may be there or re-form your question(s) to be easier to answer ..

  4. If you rip with Smartripper, DVD Decrypter etc you can demux the 5.1 sound and author it onto your DVDR with no loss in quality, so the answer is yes you can keep the original sound.

I always keep the 5.1 sound and just re-encode the video if required to make it fit onto a DVDR
