  1. Hi all. Pardon this question in the event that it was posted but I may not have caught it as a topic in my searches. Does software exist that would allow one to burn 4-5 vcd quality movies onto a DVD-R with menus so that you can play on a standalone DVD Player similar to the vcd+menus template in Nero? I love collecting DVDs but I really look forward to popping my backups onto one DVD-R and watching several Star Trek episodes in one sitting. Thanks!

  2. Yes, MyDVD has allowed people to put several VCD quality clips (MPEG1) into DVD-R.
You can create a menu with several buttons. Each button when click will play certain movies.
You can store around 4-5 full lenght movies into one DVD-R depends on the lenght.
I hope this is what you are looking for.

The DVD authoring program you choose to use will make a difference in determining your success rate. I use SpruceUp 1.0 for miniDVD authoring, and it gets touch-and-go with VCD-quality MPEGs ... although, for example, 352x240 MPEG-1 @ 29.976fps, max bitrate of 1.8Mbps is within the DVD spec, SpruceUp will every-now-and-then refuse to accept such a clip into a project. SpruceUp generally prefers full-resolution everything.

Do some test clips first before going off on a long encode and having your authoring software refuse your work. And dont forget: the DVD spec does not allow 44.1kHz audio, only 48kHz.

  4. Guys,

    Thanks for the insightful replies.

Tom - I don't recall hearing about that feature in MyDVD but am looking for that app now. The next step is to get a DVD burner as well. I really don't mind the cost. It really is worth it.

Antny - I very surprised that you got it to accept low-resolution mpeg-1 clips. My experiences with SpruceUp have been less than successful.

Once again, thanks for the fast replies.
