I got a "home theatre" receiver and speakers (5 plus subwoofer). I have a DVD player and DVDs that have 5.1 audio on them. But I don't seem to be able to get anything more than stereo on the receiver. I don't know whether I haven't set it up right, or if my DVD is not capable of reading and sending the 5.1 signal. My DVD player is a Konka KD 1800 U1. It has an S-video output and a "digital" output (that looks just like an ordinary RCA jack).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Bill

Do you have the digital output from the dvd player hooked to the digital connection on your amp or do you just have the stereo left and right rca's hooked up?

I tried connecting the digital out on the DVD player to the digital in on the surround receiver (using a normal RCA cord), but it still came through in stereo.

ok, then you need to go into the menu on your dvd player and change the audio out from "PCM" to digital

Yippee! I didn't know there was a choice of digit or not on the DVD player. Actually, I've got a family party to prepare for now ( ). So, I haven't fully tested it. When I do, I'll make a post to confirm. Thanks very much -- your help has been invaluable.
