  1. Hi guys. I'm new to the forum and have already got two posts going!

I made up a VCD last night of some of my favourite guitar player clips and I created a menu in Nero. Everything seemed fine, but in the end, 3 problems turned up.

    1) The AVI files I included turned up with no sound. I've posted a query about that in the coversion section.

    2) The menu isn't really a menu. It's 2 pages and has all the colour scheme and such I told it to. I can go between the two pages using the skip buttons, but I can't scroll through the selections. On the first page I can push the number of the selction I want 9 and under and it goes there. Otherwise it just gives a little error Icon. Can anyone help me out? My version of Nero is 5.5

    3) How can I tell if I'm burning a VCD or an SVCD?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

  2. VCD menus are not the same as DVD menus. For one thing, they don't support overlay graphics like on a DVD menu. They also don't support the arrow/cursor keys on a DVD remote.

There is a way to make a pseudo-highlight selection menu and I think that adam make a guide somewhere. However, it seems that you are a beginner, so I suggest that you try some simpler things first.

Nero is not a very good VCD authoring program for menus. It is much too simplistic and you won't be able to do much.

The best way to author S/VCDs is to use the VCDImager system. There are now a few great GUIs that use VCDImager as the backend including the fantastic VCDEasy: http://www.vcdeasy.org

You will be able to make both menus and chapters with this proggy.

To understand how the underlying system works (if you want to be an "advanced" user -- i.e., author your own XML descripter files), then try:

    Best of luck.
