I was converting an AVI movie to VCD format. The source file was about 388MB. But after I converted, the MPG file was 1.30GB! The how-to I read here on how to convert AVI to VCD said that if you have a video that's below 80 minutes, then you don't have to cut it in half. My video is 1:39:44 long. What do I do now? It doesn't fit on my CDR that is 700MB and 80MIN. I'm thinking of only using one CDR, should I do the "Merge & Cut" option in TMPGEnc? Besides, when you put the 2 (more) files onto one CDR, isn't that the same as putting the entire movie onto the CDR?

Please help me! To be exact, the converted file is 1332MB and I haven't done a Simple De-Multiplex after the conversion in TMPGEnc.

You can use the Merge & Cut option to make two CDs of your video (my choice), or use this guide to make your video fit on one CD.

Thanks! But does the DVD-ripping part apply to me, I didn't get my source from a DVD. And will this lower the video quality?

  4. Skip to the part where tmpgecn is being used if you already have something in avi format. Avi's are good but never as good as the original.
fitting it onto one disk will sacrifice quality. If having it on one disk is your primary concern, invest in a dvd burner, or if you are concerned with quality....Encode to SVCD using some of the other guides and split into 2 or 3 cd-rs.

It seems I have some problems playing SVCDs. When I insert a test SVCD recently into the DVD Player, it shows a menu which lists folders like "root", "ext", "mpeg2" and all those. To play the movie, I'll have to go to the MPEG folder and then highlight on the file there and click play. But that's not all. The movie comes out all distorted with lots of trash everywhere. But the DVD Player plays VCDs, CDRs, and CDRWs. So what should I do now? The guide says to re-encode the movie so it will fit on one CDR and that will take me 15 hours! And I don't want to split it...so I guess to re-encode..
