i've tried tinra and motion capture programs, but they both give me choppy results. any way to use a tmpeg-like program for converting? i'm at my wit's end here!

None that I know of, but if you use a PC that's fast enough to decode the .rm in real-time without dropping frames you shouldn't have a problem with choppiness using either Tinra or a capture program...
