This is Macrovision stopping you from copying "Braveheart"

I have the same problem and this only comes from a copy protected DVD or VHS. My capture card is Geforce 4 ti 4200 tv in / out. Capturing from TV as not affected and from non-protected source.

I haven't got around in finding another driver to fix this problem. I have been told an older driver will fix it.

There is another topic on this issue somewhere here on VCDHelp suggesting a version.

  4. If your is a card based on NVidia chip and you're OS is Win2K or WinXP, it might be an incompatible driver. Is it a big rectangular white box in middle of the capture? This was fixed on my Nvidia based card by downgrading to Nvidia's generic WDM capture driver 1.08, found here:

    ftp://download1.nvidia.com/Windows/23.11/WDM_1.08.exe

    My experience is discussed here:

It is weird that you get the problem on the TV capturing. No Macrovision on the TV, it must a fault of some kind.

My TV capturing as OK and the LD capturing is also not affected. My problem is only on VHS and DVD capturing with Macrovision detected.

I think in your case the white bar on the TV is a technical fault; the capture driver thinks it is the Macrovision on a “dirty video”.

I just downloaded the driver v1.08. I'll let you all know.

I have the same problem with my bought/rented VHS tapes. I have WDM drivers v1.1.7.0

I will also try the 1.08 drivers

    Any special instructions for installing?
Do I have to reinstall the capture apps after the new WDM drivers are done?

    cheers

  10. you need to remove the newest drivers else it wont work ... but i myself formated my computer for many reason so i erased them and 1.08 works with perfection now or it could be a protection but i dont know much about it yet ...

The white bar on my captured DVD now gone with the WDM driver v1.08 installed. I successfully captured a DVD musicvideo and it is about time.

I blasted the makers of the DVD's and the movie industry with their insanity of having macrovision and DVD regions. The same goes for the CD music industry with their CD copy protection. It is ridiculous; they are causing me the inconvenience, the time and money. Who do think they are kidding, they aren’t going to get any more revenue.

This is fair use, my own legitimate DVD, CD and VHS for my use and for my own reason to back up into the computer’s hard drive, in the car. I should have a right to backup another copy of my own DVD movie at home. **** RIAA and **** MPAA.

    Thanks everyone.
