hey,
i'm newbie on this board, and i just buy a pioneer DVD-RW (DVR A05) so i'm trying to burn my first video dvd...
i've got a svcd (3 CD) and i'd love to burn it on DVD, so i'm converting it at the moment, following the explanations on this website.
the thing is : it is really slow,is it "usual" ? i mean it will certainly take 3 ou 4 hours per CD,so i'm asking myself if it's always slow,or if i did it wrong...?

Well, it depends a lot on your tools used and the settings within them, but if you are using TmpGenc then 3 to 4 hours for SVCD to DVD encode doesn't sound unreasonable on your system.
BTW, did you know that re-encoding may not be necessary for SVCD on DVD. It doesn't work on all DVD players because its not within the standards but you can put SVCD video straight to DVD-r. There is a guide on this in the authoring section. -
oh yes, i know that, but the thing is, my dvd player (LG 4750) doesn't play svcd, and it's not working well with vcd (it wasn't working at all, but i tried the hack for vcd enable) i only got black and white ...
so that's why,i'm burning it as dvd... -
oh yes, i know that
Actually S(VCD) compatibility has littel to do with it, as you would be authoring to DVD-video format, just the resolution wouldn't be quite standard. I can't say wether it will work in your player or not. However, if your player supports -RW media its probably worth a try as it can save a lot of time.
DVD is higher resolution than SVCD (as you no doubt know) but re-encoding won't improve the picture quality at all. If anything it will make it a little worse so anytime you can avoid re-encoding has to be worth it.
