  1. Is this possible - i dont want to rip the whole thing - just a specific chunk - thats around 5 minutes.

  4. so once i have converted the whole dvd to avi - then i can use what u mentioned to cut out the section i want when im converting to mpeg?

    you dont have to convert the whole thing to avi ---

    frame serve it with dvd2avi .. in fact you can cut it in dvd2avi .. though what i would suggest

    dvd2avi make project file -> vfapai wrap -> edit in virtual dub -> frame serve to whatever (tmpgenc , cce , main concept) .. if there were a lot of edits

    other than that you can convert the vobs to mpeg2 directly (not re-encode) and edit mpeg2 with one of the few and mostly poor mpeg editors that dont re-encode

    use smartripper to rip the vobs

    then, dvd2avi to frameserve into tmpgenc

    normally, in tmpgenc, you would encode the entire movie, but it has a source range filter under the advanced tab in the cofig section that allows you to specify which segments in the movie to encode

    nah -- couple minutes tops , except for edits .. very fast ..

    vobs are already mpeg2 files - i said don't re-encode here and edit also without re-encoding ... dvdcutter stream is kinda what i had in mind as you can rip and cut a piece of a vob all in one step ..
