pretty much the same question every week. you need to wait until the rip programs are updated to take care of the newest protection schemes. if you are using the free version of dvdfab it could be awhile as it's updated after the paid version.

What I just don't understand is how they can have a new copy protection that won't work with existing software, yet the disc will play on any dvd player, even if its many years old.

How the heck can that be??

hehe that's what keeps the programmers rolling in the dough. at least dvd protection hasn't gotten as extreme as cd protection did at one time. they used a laser at one point to burn a hole through the cd at a specific sector that the software referenced. think you could burn a one sector sized hole in a disc?

As far as I know nobody has cracked some of the CD data navigation CDs like the Volkwagen/Blaupunkt ones. The protection on those really isn't part of the CD data though....it's inside the layers of the physical disc itself.

You could try DVD43,it's freeware but might not be up to date for your DVD.

There's also DVDfabPasskey.it's currently freeware and is probably more current than DVD43.

    Hi,
I am a newbie. I get an I/O error when I try to rip using DVDFab for new moon. Is this normal or is it something to do with Protection? Am I doing something wrong? Please help

I have both paid versions of anydvd and dvdfab the dvdfab beta 7.0.2.9 was said to be able to handle new moon, I'm running 7.0.3.0 and I get an error "102" and have to abort when its trying to burn. Also anydvd says that 6.6.3.0 is basically made for the new moon protection. So we just have to wait for another version?

    DVDFab 7.0.3.0 Updated!
    • New: Language files.
    • New: Main window is resizable and more readable on large screen now.
    • New: Added "A/V Codec" page in Settings window, which allows user to set preferred decoder and encoder.
    • Fix: Lots of small issues from V6.
    DVDFab "DVD to DVD":
    • New: Added support for a new copy protection as found on "New Moon" (US).
    DVDFab "Blu-ray to Blu-ray":

    • Fix: Backup disc cannot be played on Samsung standalone player.
    DVDFab "Blu-ray to Mobile":
    • New: Added new "Blu-ray to Mobile" option.
    • New: Added HD file output for Xbox 360 and Playstantion 3.
