  1. Have an avi file that I'm using Nero to burn into VCD format - turns out at around 970MB. Any ideas on how to split on 2 CD-R's, any help appreciated, I don't want to lower bitrate if possible...what software to use would also be great...thanks.

  2. You should most definitely use another MPEG encoder (TMPGEnc comes highly recommended) rather than letting Nero do it.

As for cutting the MPEG: http://www.vcdhelp.com/edit

    Best of luck.

VirtualDub can split AVI files easily.

    1. Open VirtualDub. Select File >> Open Video File and browse to the original AVI file.

    2. Using the slider bar at the bottom and the two black arrows underneith it. Mark the section to delete (IE mark the second half, so you can save the first half) press the delete key to delete that section (in memory only.)

    3. Go to Video >> set Direct Stream Copy (this speeds things up a lot)

    4. Go back to file >> Save as AVI. Give it a different filename from the original.

    5. Close VirtualDub, or select File >> Open Video File and browse to the original AVI file again.

    6. Repeat steps 2-4 again, for the opposite half.
