Div-X viewer wipes anti-ad software
Popular free app found to erase software designed to block ads and pop-ups
Ad-Aware maker Lavasoft is warning that a free Div-X film viewer will wipe a number of privacy software applications from a user's computer.
Radlight 3.03R5 provides fast and high quality playback of Div-X content and other multimedia files.
But Lavasoft said that it has received reports from users that the program silently wipes software designed to block advertising and pop-ups.
Following an investigation, it has warned that the program also wipes any files that are not being used, including desktop and start menu items.
"We have performed several tests that have proved this information to be correct. We hereby confirm that, upon execution, the Radlight software indeed tries to silently uninstall all [our] components," Lavasoft said.
The company added that there is no warning in Radlight's licence agreement or on its website that its Div-X software, which comes bundled with WhenU's SaveNow and New.net, uninstalls Ad-aware or other privacy software.
A spokesman said that Radlight has an obligation to inform users of the full consequences of installing its software, so that they can choose whether or not to continue.

Ads are annoying especially pop-up ones.
As long as you have the divx codec installed, you can use any multimedia player to watch DivX videos. -
BJ_M,
Good for you, for proving my points - even if you're late
This just goes to show you that all the time I talked about adware and
spyware - I was NOT kidding around. ..and, that a form of conspericy
has ben around us for quite some time. I've gone on quite anal'y but
I've ben defused in some instaces or "fooweeed" by other's here for
suggesting that most apps if not some then, include things like spyware
in ANY form ie, "redlite" and in due time, before you know it, someone
as "jimmyjammed" you. - can't say's "I told you so" though.
I may be a bit hyper at times, but most of the time, I'm correct when I
think I'm being spied upon. Trust me, and others out there. We are all
being spied upon in some form or another. Just another reason why I
am looking into creating my own software Player for video files. You just
can't trust them all. They are all wolf's, dreassed up in sheep-skin - now,
where did I HEAR that from, he, he...
Look it MS. They (behind the scenes) put many companies out of business
w/ (in most probale cases, above) tactics, by causing strife in one form or
anothr, etc. Then, after pushing everyone else out of the picuter, they
mysteriously RASE the software ?? Come on, wake up and smell the
coffee. why is it, that when you can spend $49 for Windows 3.1 and then
5 years later, NOW have to spend $200 - and for the same exact thing,
except they pretty it up w/ more graphics w/ bells, etc.
Well, I was just ranting some more here - cause it SO TRUE!!
At least SOMEONE has awoken to this nonsence
-vhelp
