  1. How long does it normally take you. I'm trying to do one an it says it will take 18 hours. I'm using tmpgenc , is this normal? Thanks

  2. It depends on your processor speed, what other programs you are running in the background and what options you are using during the encoding process.

Also depends on what you're going from (DV AVI, uncompressed AVI, Huffy) and what you're going to (MPEG1, MPEG2, resolution), whether you use a constant or variable bitrate and if you apply any filters (Noise reduction, etc).

I typically go from either DV AVI or ripped VOB files and DVD2AVI to MPEG1 using 2pass VBR with no filters. If the Motion Search Precision is set to Highest Quality it takes about 2.5x - 3x the actual playing time of the file, at the High setting less than 2x the playing time. Since I don't have a DVD writer I haven't done much with MPEG2 yet but that seems to take considerably longer especially at full resolution.

Computer specs are above and that's assuming I'm not doing anything else at the same time.
