  1. I have successfully burned SVCDs on Mac OS X using ppmtoy4m, mpeg2enc, mp2enc, mplex, vcdxgen, vcdxbuild and vcdimager (with MissingMPEG Tools, MediaPipe, VCD Builder and Toast as GUI front-ends).

But how can I retrieve the MPEG2s from the SVCDs if I want to use them later in other projects?

I can copy a .mpg from the SVCD's MPEG2 directory but neither VideoLAN 0.4 nor QuickTime Player 6 can open it, like they could the original MPEG2 files before burning them to SVCDs. (VideoLan can play the SVCD from the CD).

I unsuccessfully tried to demux the .mpg but bbDEMUX 1.2.2 complains that "Pack header field flag value not allowed in program streams".

Can apps like vcdxrip or cdxa2mpeg do this? Is there a GUI tool for this?

  2. Thanks, VCD Copy X could extract the files. Although it reported some errors, the files seemed to be OK.

BTW, the files VCD Copy X extracted were *.dat files -- I just renamed them as *.mpg. Is that an OK thing to do? Is dat the same as mpg in this context?
