I have been creating SVCD photo albums for years and playing them on an APEX 703. Recently, I bought a JVC 7-disk XV-F85gd player, which advertises as able to play SVCD.
The photo albums were created using WinonCD 5.x.
The JVC plays them all right, but the images now look as though they have either been oversharpened or reduced in resolution. That is, high contrast edges are blocky/jaggy. On the APEX, the edges are smoother (though still sharp enough).
I am beginning to wonder if the player is reducing the playback to VCD. I say this because whenever I play the same discs in a computer using vcd_play.exe (comes with winoncd by roxio), the images look much lower resolution than how they play on my apex/tv. Note that DVD playback is fine on the JVC, and dvd imae quality looks fine. Also, as far as I can tell, dv video converted to SVCD seems to have the proper quality/resolution on the JVC. The manual mentions photo albums on SVCD, so I assume it is not incompatible...
Any thoughts? Is it the DVD player? Is there a setting that will allow it to play albums properly?
Thanks
