  1. I am eyeing the GE DGE-100N and the Pioneer DV-250. They both have good reviews, and would play anything I would ever play in it, but what would you choose?

  2. I would go with the Pioneer, as up until just now I had never heard of GE

  3. I just went and bought the Pioneer, it is great. I had a Panasonic RV27 before, and it wouldn't play my svcd's but this played flawlessly, plus had a better dvd picture than the Panasonic one. Thanx.

  4. How do you make your SVCD ?

There are many reviews on this site said the players need to set to 16:9 to play SVCD, is this true ?

The companies that do not make products anymore, sell their brands away. Philips makes Magavox. Thompson makes RCA, and GE. Panasonic make Qusar.

Thompson ( French ) who make Thompson, RCA, and GE is the company that beats Sony, Panasonic, Sharp,...( the jap ) to put large low cost chip set in TV, sold a lot of them in US ( low cost ) and stop the domination of Japanese in consumer electronics.

It is a very important consumer war that wage and fought with courage.

SingSing you're right Thomson is pretty cool, almost the only company where *every* PAl TV set does NTSC as well. Their design is very 70s at times though.

Sorry for asking a silly question : Some say "this dvd player" has better picture than "the other player". But how can one dvd player display picture better than another when all the dvd player does is display whats on the Disc to the TV ? Back then there was a debate on "Pioneer is better than APex" on this message board and lots of people say that Pioneer has a sharper picture than Apex. I personally never had a chance to compare the two players and don't know if it is true or not that one player can display a better picture than another player.
