  1. I have a large collection of photos that I would like to scan and then create slide shows to burn to a vcd and then view the slide shows on a DVD player. Can anyone recommend software that will allow me to do this?

    Thanks

  2. I used to use a program call FLYvcd or something similar. It was OK. When I bought my Video cam I purchased VideoFactory from Sonic FOundry. I also use it for Stills. It's easy to use. It can render to mpg1 as standard and a mpg2 plugin is available.

It costs under $60us to register. Why not download the demo.

I simply use NERO to make a VCD with jpg files. Stills on vcd are limited to 704x480 but that is much higher resolution than the std 352x240 for mpeg-1 video on vcd. I have even made VCDs with mpeg video and stills between the videos. You can select the rate of slide advance, default is 5 seconds what I did on mine is limit the actual photo to about 670x 460 to be sure and not loose part of the slides to overscan. I made a 704x480 background, layered the slide over and within the 704x480 background, then saved them as jpegs. I put hundreds of slides on one little mini-cd I can pop in a shirt pocket. JD

  5. Thanks to that have responded. I have tried Nero and can get my dvd to display a menu of the images but cannot figure out for the slide show to start. Guess I must be doing something wrong. I have also downloaded the trial of the Ulead DVD Picuture Show & that certainly does exactly what I want; but it does have a few limitations (99 pics per show & no transition options ie: fades, blinds etc.) Maybe someone can come up with a better suggestion.

    Thanks

99 pictures in one slide show not enough ?? I get bored after 30 !!

I think most programs that do fades, etc. actually create an MPEG file and the price to pay for that is blurred pictures. Depends what you you want, crisp clear pictures with no transitions or fancy effects with poor pictures.
    I know what I prefer.

I've recently bought Ulead Pictureshow and it does a great job. It also has an archive feature that allows you to store all the original JPEGS (if you have space on the CD).

  7. There is a great shareware program called Photo2VCD which will do all you want. Lots of transitions and music but the shareware version is limited to 10 photos.

Why not to try Photo2VCD Professional? It's a great but easy to use DVD/SVCD/VCD authoring tool which can help you to create a photo video CD with background music and transition effects in a few clicks. Both VCD and SVCD are supported now. You can even add subtitle to each photo.

  13. Freeware called Slide Show Movie Maker
    ( download at http://www.joern-thiemann.de/tools/index.html )
will take puctures and convert them into a DVD (720x480) resolution AVI file with many selectable transitions. Has lots of features and options like text captions and background music.

Once you have the AVI file you can encode it into DVD MPEG2 format using something like TMPGEnc or DVD Movie Factory and burn it.

Nero is a good choice, because the drap and drop takes about 10-15 seconds to put aways few hundreds photo per CD. The pictures are shown full screen and thus in great detail.

If yo check [x] the option "stores in pictures folder", then it also doubled as a backup for PC.

Both VCD and JPEG files in the pictures folder make the CD pretty universal, so you can send some of these to friends and family. We are working with 1.3, 2.0...5.0 mega pixel pcitures nowaday. We can hardly E-mail them or put them on floppy anymore.
