  1. Im new to dvd burners. I just got the sony dru-500a which
    does dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd+r, dvd+rw.

the 2 things I want to do with this drive is

    1 data archiving and
2 backing up dvd movies to play on my standalone pioneer dvd player

my standalone player works with either media

is there any down side to using the dvd-r's instead of the dvd+r's?

the dvd-r ritek's are about half the price of the dvd+r ritek's.

I read that the dvd+r's had more features, but it doesnt sound like
there features I would use in data archiving, or movie backups. not sure tho.

is one format better suited for data archiving? or for backing up movies?
can anyone comment before I purchase a spindle blanks?

    Thanks

  2. The biggest advantage of DVD-R is the price. Ritek prime is about 0.85 dollar for 100 from shop4tech.com. Other things are pretty similar. I recommend DVD+RW for temporary data archive and movie play test because it's fast.

  3. I forgot to mention. The Ritek prime dvd-r is now burned at 2x with new firmware 1.0F.
