Just installed my drive but have had bad results using "Datawrite Classic 2x" media, not being able to burn a single disc - nero keeps giving "power calibration error" and 2 other software packages also don't do any better.
Anyone had more success? What media did you use?
Please post brand / speed burned / read compatibility with other DVD-ROM/PS2/etc if known.

Some more results:
Bulkpaq burned at 1x, could see directory but files won't open.
Best results from "Choice" DVD-R - burned good data-disc at 2x. -
Bulkpak 1x - plays movie for a while (about 50mins) then is unable to read disc
Unbranded 2x (TDK according to CDinfo) - won't play at all @ x1 or x2
going to try some major (expensive) brands to check if drive is defective.

i bought some Datawrite to test with my dvdburner, but no luck with the first one. didn't have more time to test others, but i don't have my hopes very high.
They failed almost inmediatly at the start of the burning process with Prassi.
I'll try Princo tonight. -
bulkpaq purple top 1x disks play up to about 50 min then go blocky
datasafe datawrite classic 2 x perfect burn no problems
bulkpaq green top gen 4 2x perfect burn no problems
princo dvd rw general 1x perfect no problems
datasafe dvd rw general 1x perfect no problems
hope this helps a bit more -
memorex DVD-R 1x perfect
imation DVD-R 1x perfect
imation DVD-RW 1x perfect
i'll post more asap -
I tried some Memorex 1X I picked up at CompUSA over the weekend. The two I tried out of the box both returned Power Calibration Errors. It also didn't want to record at 16X on the Memorex 32X CD-R's I had, though it worked fine with the Philips 48X ones I have. I think I will go pick up a Imation and Fuji DVD-R's and see how they work. The unknown DVD-RW that came with the drive worked fine.

Doug when you say play 50 mins then are blocky, do you have to actually play them 50 mins or is it blocky even when you skip forward to there.
Because usually what I just do to check is skip forward to the last 2 chapters and check them a couple of minutes -
I just got my DVR-105 a few days ago and have only burned one disc, a Maxell 2x DVD-R, and burning it was perfect, and it seems to work properly when putting it in my standalone DVD player, but I haven't tested it extensively yet

Bulkpaq 2x Gen4 DVD-R (light green top) : perfect
Choice 2x Gen3 (blue top) : lots of errors at verifying (both at 1x and 2x)
Datawrite Classic : 2x burn (forced) verified but unreadable on standalone or even dvdrom
========= EDIT
Optodisc 1x RW : perfect -
jmbuis, when I get blocky playback on the memorex discs, it h appens either way, playing normally, or skipping to that chapter....
I think that playing blocky may be more of a authoring problem though, I dont know that it means the m edia is defective as much as the IFO files not being created properly, because I have some memorex discs which play perfectly, but others dont...
