  1. I am looking at buying a DVD Burner in the next month or so and I was wondering whether anyone here can recommend a cheap place to buy either in Australia or that delivers to Australia.

Also, would a DVD burner ordered from America work with an Australian computer (i.e power/voltage wise)?

One more question, what do you guys recommend in terms of a DVD burner. I was looking at the Sony DRU500A.

    Pacmania,
Not sure what part of Oz you are from, but I suggest U look at www.gamedude.co.au. The 500a is available also at www.thediscshop.com.au. Both are in Brisbane.
The 500a burner would seem a good choice if you require +/- compatability for players/other roms etc. The new A05 Pioneer also has good ratings for the -R school. They have done some software and other mods to improve data back up on the A05 also.
Me, I have an MP5125 Ricoh, and to date I have not had an issue with it for what I want it to do. The media is around 6 to 7 bucks for 2.4x +R add another buck for RW. That is more expensive that -R media, but not by much. Have never made a coaster with the +R (Legacy, Laser, Ricoh) discs yet. Work fine in my Omni DVD player. +RW is no go in the Omni tho...shame. RW is for data backup for me anyhow.
    Hope that helps you, Regards

  3. Yeh, I live about 10 minutes drive away from each. Personally I would prefer to buy from The Disc Shop. Game dude is usually cheaper but sometimes the wait for service can be up to an hour.

Thanks for your response but please keep them coming.

    Pacmania,
Yo right, Game Dude and Service in one sentance....hmmm me thinks not. At least the bakery is nearby to get a bite while U wait and wait and wait. Add a 100 min drive from Toowoomba to the wait and when they ain't got what you are after...hmmm. But quite cheap retail prices.
Disc Shop is like a Kid in a toy shop..pricing not quite as good...but NO wait.
re O/seas Burner voltages...12v DC is 12 v DC as is 5v etc ...should not have issues if U are prepared to have No warranty.
If U know your way around DVD authoring/burning etc the 500a is a very good drive AFAIK. The A05 is very good also..mate just snaffled one from Disc Shop...is working fine...He has to get his head around DVD2DVDr and IFOedit now tho....he he he.

If it were me i'd go the Sony or wait for TDK, MSI and NEC to get their +/- versions here.
    Regards

  5. Yeh, I was thinking that the cheapest option may be to order from the US.

I am not planning on buying till probably January/February so I will see then how much (if) prices have come down by.

    Thanks for your help
