  1. I'm trying to author a DVD-R with multiple SVCDs on.

I have managed to do everything except, when I try to join 2 SVCDs to gether to make one MPEG-2 file for the DVD-R. I always get lip sync problems?

I have tried lots of different editing software M2-Edit, TMPGEnc, EO Video to name a few. But can't seem to get it to work

If anybody else had this problem and managed to fix it please help me out this is getting very frustrating.

  2. My advice is, do not join MEPG files. It's really unnecessary. Burn them as separate tracks and everything is all right. Here is why:

A joined MPEG file is not the same as one MPEG file continuously encoded, if you consider factors such as I,P,B frames, timestamp, etc. They may have the same file size, but they are different, especially when examined by some authoring programs. That makes inserting chapters impossible in many cases.

When you do your own encoding, plan ahead and do most of your editing, trimming, joining before encoding. Encode your stream continuously and it will make everything easier. If you get your MPEG files from somebody else, burn them as separate tracks and you can still add your own chapters to them, although it becomes a bit more complicated.

  3. Poplar is right, I found this out too, all the editing I have done with MPEG files always ends up out of synch. As he stated it is basically because the software does not select keyframes when editing.

I was going to try and manually pinpoint the keyframes towards the end where I wanted to join/delete clips and see if their was a way to manually select the keyframes that the software would use...but I am not sure even that will work.

If anyone one knows of software or a way to edit MPEG2 streams that allows you to select the keyframes as to avoid sych problems, please let us know. I have tried Uleads Media Studio Pro 6.5 and Adobe Premiere 6.5 with no luck, however TMPGenc Plus did work when I cut out clips from the same stream, though it is so basic that you cannot add transitions, audio, fx's, etc.....

  4. I had limited success using Womble mpeg2vcr, the file played perfectly in sync using Womble as the player, but had a lag of around a second using 3rd party software...Windvd and Media Player which is strange, I never got around to putting the files onto Dvd-r as I didn't want to waste expensive media!

It would be gr8 if someone came up with a solution for this as I have 100's of Svcd's that I would like to put on Dvd to save space!
