When trying to use tmpgenc 12a to reencode a dazzle DVC2 mpeg2 capture I select the file from the browse button for video source. In the video and audio boxes is displayed "mux//filepath" instead of simply the filepath. When I select encode, tmpgenc seems to just remux the files instead of actually reencoding them (it just takes a couple of minutes for a 1hr clip at 480x480 2650vbr) and the resultant file properties are the same as the original regardless of the template I choose. Although I do use this mux function to create nero compliant files, I'd like to sometimes be able to reencode the mpeg to change bitrates, etc.I do have the vfapi plugins and ran the install.bat file.

I've tried tmpgenc12i and the files are "unsupported" although it did work, once.

Anyway to reliably do an mpeg reencode?

It's been a while now, with no solution after repeated efforts.

...maybe HELLLLP SEFY!! any ideas on this??

BTW, I have the run vfp-install.bat and have appropriate vfapi-plugins installed, have either/both powerdvd and windvd2000 installed. Attempted w/ win98se, w2k and me.

And what causes this curious "mux://C:\*" pseudo encode?

  5. Just delete the "mux//" part people. That should solve the problem. It's apparently a syntactical shortcut that TMPGEnc provides to allow multiplexing without using the multiplex dialog under MPEG tools.

To make the problem go away permanently, you might try disabling the "Enable multiplex with "mux://file name" for video/audio source" option found under the "Options | Environmental Settings..." menu.

  6. just deleting the mux part won't work, tmpgenc can not accept mpg2s as inputs. you'll have to run the mpg2 file through dvd2avi, then use the d2v file as your video input source. hence the reason why to convert a svcd -> vcd, you have to go through dvd2avi.
