First, look in the DVD Players section at the left to see if your model of Sony player plays VCDs.
Second, make sure that you are making a standard compliant VCD. Just copying an MPEG-1 file to a CD does not make a VCD that will work.

First, does your model Sony even read CD-R or CD-RW media. The sony in our bedroom will not read any CD-R media I have tried. However it will read any CD-RW media I have used. It will not even play a audioCD on CD-R media. I will play AudioCD, VCD (not xsvcd) and even dts audio CD as long as it on re-writeable media.

none of my Sony DVD players will play anything but a STANDARD VCD format videoCd.

    Expanding on the foregoing reply.

  4. Just a note. The Mintek DVD player will not read VCD's or S-VCD's. ONLY DVD's. It will read mpeg and jpeg files however.

Which one? I have a mintek 1600 and it plays vcd/xvcd/svcd/xvcd/cvd though I have a newer one.

  6. tuco, I have the Mintek 2580. It will play every thing except the vcd and s-vcd's. I called Minted in California, ask them, and they told me it woulden't play them. Maybe it was just the model that I have. It dosn't really matter as I only make DVD's nowt. I have some old vcd that I would like to play however.

Try nerd-out.com and see if there is a hack or firmware update for your player.
