  1. I've been experimenting with AC-3 capture (no joy) when something occurred to me.

I'v been trying to process and convert the file, with no success. Finally got a 5.1 amp and confirmed it IS a digital sound stream.

Apparently, the Digital out is a 87kb Mono file, compressed ac-3. What if I could successfully (?) capture as such, mux it AS IS with Video, take the Mono analog output from the DVD olayer, and run that to the Digital In on the AMP?

I realize this would be an analog playback of a digital copy of an analog representation of a digital stream, or some such crap, but could it work?

My first thought was that it might possibly damage my amp, any one got any ideas on that, other than turn the volume way down?

No it won't work. It won't work since the analog outputs are rated for different voltages than a standard Digital Coax and digital signals are serial and analog is a kind of parallel.

  4. How about setting the DVD to output uncompressed PCM thru the Digital out and running that to the amp? That would at least get the voltages and signal type to acceptable range, still got the analog to digital problem.
