You are advised by the disc manufacturers not to put labels on DVDR's or CDR's for that matter. I think they do that just to cover themselves. I label my CD's and DVD's using press-it full face labels with no problems.

Actually i just bought a 50pack of sony 700mb cdr's and the container said that you can label them, there was no warning of causing errors by doing this either, i was suprised usually companies like to cover there but with bogus jargon.

If the label is placed so that it doesn't affect the center of gravity too much (or "balance") then you will have no problems in a standalone player. However, if you don't get the label placed properly, then it will spin out of balance and you will have nothing but problems in any player. I use Neato's "METALIC FOIL" labels for all of my DVD and CD recordings, and I use a "stomper" applicator to apply them to the disks. I haven't had any problems.

Don't put those labeled CDs in your cars. The heat and moisture can cause the labels to be partially pell off, and stuck in your player.
