Well...
Every time I play a DVD disc (at least so far) in my player (which for the record but probably doesn't matter is a GE D100N), it plays perfectly, however when it gets ejected, there are ALWAYS speckles on the bottom of the disc. ALWAYS. I can put in a clean bottomed disc, and it comes out speckled when I'm done watching.
Does anyone know what's wrong, and what I can do to fix this, so that when I put in a clean disc it comes out the same way?
Sorry if this is a really newbie type question, but this is preventing me from watching anything, as I don't want any more discs ruined.
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Erm new one on me.Could you tell me what you mean by speckles. Can these speckles be wiped off with a "clean" cloth or if you blow on them do then move.I am trying to workout is it dust or contamination from within you player.Or soemthing far more unlikely a reaction from the laser.Which considering is a player namely a reader will NOT have any power to change the disk like a burner/recorder.
I suspect the speckles are contamination, maybe something inside is causing friction near the spindle or centre or edge of disks and scrapping of fragments.Anyway let me know and if I can help I will :0
Oh! one last question is the player a standalone or inside you PC?? -
Looks like dust. Tried blowing them off, but I'm guessing the heat from watching the movie has prevented the ability to blow off. Haven't tried a clean cloth of any sort, and probably won't.
Could it merely be a dusty/dirty head, which would then make the disc dirty and the head of the laser mixing with the dust would cause the speckles? And if so, could I just buy a DVD/CD head cleaner and fix it that way?
It's a new player, and I've never had this problem with any players before, which BTW, this IS a standalone. I doubt anything is scraping off fragments, as if I put a CD in that it can't read, it comes out as clean as when I put it in. Same with all the CD's I've put in it if it can read it or not...CD's, VCD's, the works. -
My Apex is notorious for messing up DVDs. It's a 3-disc changer, and it often times locks up and requires that I unplug it and plug it back in. If I don't wait for the spindle to completely slow down and stop before plugging it back in, it drops the disc back into the carousel while still spinning at high speed and leaves marks all over the surface of the disc. This is needless to say, unacceptable and one of the major reasons I'll never buy another Apex device, regardless of their flexibility or hack-ability.
Try checking the tray itself to see if there is anything that matches up with what you are seeing on the discs, it's possible that the discs are rubbing on the tray and is leaving some kind of marks. It's possible that the disc is rubbing the tray when the spindle lowers it back down. Once the disc is raised up and spinning, there shouldn't be (theoretically) touching the surface of the disc that could leave a mark (just a laser beam).
