hi...i have 13 avi files that i am encoding with tda3 to dvd format..each avi represents a chapter and is about 25 minutes....when I lower the bitrate and fit them on a single layer disc...they play fine with a small pause in between chapters for like a second but then it keeps playing...when i make the bitrate higher for better quality and fit them on a DL disc, my dvd player seems to freeze at the chapter transition (in between avi files) only at the transititons though everywhere else it plays fine...then you fast forward it past the freeze and it plays fine again...how come on DL discs (verbatim) it gets stuck in between chapters like this??? and on single layers it plays fine...its the same video..its just that the bitrate is different...when i use the dual layer disc i set the bitrate at 2700 ..when i put it on a single layer i set it at 1600...i have an older sony dvp 5 disc changer from like 2001...note: when i play it in my computer it plays fine...is my player just too old to properly play DL discs?? whats up? any input would be appreciated!

From your description, it sounds like the player is struggling to read the DL disc. That wouldn't surprise me with a player from 2001. You might want to try it on a different or newer DVD player to be sure.

Being able to play it on the computer doesn't mean a lot. Software players like VLC can play corrupted files with missing frames and you may not even notice.

I tried it on my playstation2 and it works fine...you really think it is the player?

DL dvdr is the least compatible on standalone players of the 3 formats, +R -R & DL recordable media, so yes it could very well be the player, regardless of when it was made, we won't even go into the "sony" factor 8)

  5. Well, you have a disk where the video seems OK, and the disk plays fine in a second standalone player.

So either the bad player is unusually picky, or the good player is unusually tolerant.

Testing with two or three more will yield the answer. Since I happen to know that the PS2 would not generally be described as unusually tolerant, that points to the answer.

The age of the player also factors in, putting it all together, most likely, yes, it is indeed the player. Almost certainly nothing you can do about it, though oddly enough Raising the bitrate might be the answer. Most likely not, though.

  6. Try making each AVI a title and not a chapter and see if that helps. Make sure that after authoring you burn with imgburn. Strangely enough that might work. and if you hit the play all button it will have the same effect. Just more menu pages.

You mentioned this appears during transitions only in play back on the affected unit ... can you verify that all the avi's pumped through tda3 have the same internal info and structure .

    Gspot will help .

Give the affected unit a clean ... Remove power , top cover , and use pure alcohol and lint free wipes to clean laser , gently , and allow to vapourize , do not wipe off .

Reassemble , and try the disc again ... could be just the shot needed .
