TMPGEnc is the best damn encoder around. If you do happen to find any encoder that does the job for the same price let the forum know.
TMPGEnc doesn't suck.

You're probably encoding a:
* divX file - nortorious for incompatably and eronous erros, etc.
* corrupts AVI file non-the-less.
* a corrupt D/L'ed file - wheather AVI or divX AVI, etc.
* or combo/mixture of above and incorrect settings in TMPG
re-read the guides to your left - if it's a divX file, definately
re-read links to your left and follow each step closely.
I'm not a divX fan, but I have asked where can one D/L
such files (not whole movies, just small 10mb samples)
but no-one's willing to response to my demands, he, he...
I only want to see how these files that some poeple
are having trouble with and see if I have the same
issues. I've got a few divX samples already - not
good at all, but I like to see files that people here
are D/L'ng and having trouble with, just to see what
they are talking about. So, if you have a link to
a divX file and it's not 100's MB in size, pass it
along and I'll have a looksee!

because your AVI has errors. re-encode the avi file with virtualdub and use the new copy.

notive it is TMPGEnc and not TAVIEnc. it is for encoding MPG files. if you wish to encode avi files get VirtualDub.
peace out,

AWW MA! you know i'm not like other guys. i get nervous and my socks are to loose. -
Ok,Ok...but if an avi file is damaged but still watchable, then it must be possible to encode it.
I already used Vitrual Dub but it just encodes a small part of the avi.
Man,I just want my avi`s on a SVCD. -
then spend some time reading this site and it will start to make sense. there is no such thing as a one click program that will do everything for you just as there is no one sentence that can answer your questions.
BTW i have never lost a clip, between VirtualDub and TMPGEnc there is ALWAYS a way to make things work.
peace out,
