    how can i capture 'stills' from a dvd when im playing it on my desktop ,i use power dvd but will get anyother software i may need, the simpler the better as im just starting out with all this,so if the answers really easy forgive my ignorance.

    Just press the camera button when you get to the scene you wish to capture.

    A shortcut is to just hit 'C' on your keyboard. You can configure this in the preferences.
