that better help everyone....i think its pretty damn good

{ok...everyone...you have to get all the proper software first...
get TSCV v 0.73 release 2
get the VCDimager Gui v0.7.10
both on
http://www.ttool.de/indexe.htm
k....extract them into the SAME folder.
k....now if you have nero installed go into the nero directory and copy the CDi folder into the TSCV folder. (if you dont have nero, put in any vcd if you have one and copy if from there....if not...you can download it from the same site)
ok..still with me? its a pain to get set up but its easy as soon as you get goin
now, what you do is this, open TSCV, go to the settings screen, check vcd/svcd whatever your doing, check
PAL/NTSC..whatver your using (probably NTSC)
fill in your volume id..whatever you wanna name it
leave the three boxes on the right checked
(or just the bottom two...) DEFINATELY THE XML ONE!!
leave intro and extro mpg blank
pick where you want the *.bin to be outputted
click on Tmpenc12i button and locate the exe file of Tmpgenc (hopefully you use this program and you have it, if not...get it its the best)
click on VCDImager...show the program where that is (should be in the TSCV directory if you put them in the same spot)
DONE WITH THAT?
K....
NOW TO CREATE YOUR MENUS!!!
what you need to do is this....
in the release 2, there seems to be some bugs that have to get worked out ...SO you have to make them on your own for now...new relase is comin out soon
open up Paint, or Photoshop...whatever you want/have
you need to make a photo that is some size, (multiple ofat 96 resolution.
mine are 400 X 304
on this picture, you just make whatever you want to be on the menu....ex
The Sopranos
1. Start Movie
2. Chapter Selection
save it as a BMP.
if this is the first menu you make, you may wanna add a second..this is what i will show you with so you might as well do it
Chapter Index
(pic) (pic) (pic)
1 2 3
(pic) (pic) (pic)
4 5 6
second menu...save as BMP
ok...now SOMEHOW...i used Goldwave..you can use whatever you want...make a 5 or so SECOND sound clip that is QUIET!! this will be explained later (it loops so quiet is the best..unless you like broken records)
SAVE IT AS A .WAV
still with me? hopefully i didnt lose too many of you!!
ok...now open TmpgEnc
File >> New project >> Yes
as the video in, find your first menu
as audio in, the 5 second blank clip
dont worry about settings...the output file should read somethin like
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\menu\startmenu.mpg
ENCODE
do the same thing for your second menu
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\menu\chapterIndex.mpg
if you got this far...youre MONEY!!
GO BACK TO TSCV
click on the menu tab
click on the little cd icon
the option add menu blacks in at the bottom....click that and add your first menu .mpg (mainmenu.mpg)
now, it should say motion menu detected...if not, you screwed somethin in TmpgEnc up!!!
now click on the new line that was created...(your menu)
so it is highlighted
add menu blacks in again
add your second menu mpg (chapter index.mpg)
should look like this
cd
|
---MAINMENU: C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\menu\mainmenu.mpg (smenu-0)
|
--Menu: C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\menu\chapter index.mpg(menu-1)
now click on the SECOND MENU, at the bottom click ADD MPG
add your mpg...3rd line should appear with you mpg location
now you should have your mpg added...double click on the mpg and it should take you to the chapters tab
you have four boxes right there...do it however you want....(specific times, every 10 minutes...etc...whatever you want)
MAKE SURE THAT AFTER EACH ENTRY YOU PRESS THE ENTER BUTTON AND HEAR THAT LITTLE "BING"----you will see the entrys appear in the CHAPTERS box
when all the chapter are entered, go BACK TO THE MENU page
it should look like this
cd
|
---MAINMENU: C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\menu\mainmenu.mpg (smenu-0)
|
--Menu: C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\menu\chapter index.mpg
-|
-- C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\menu\movie.mpg
|Chapter (selection m1-1)
|Chapter (selection m1-2)
|Chapter (selection m1-3)
ETC
now to be able to go from you menus to particular points you have to tell the program what to do....
click on your MAINMENU...
go over to the columns to the right
where it says... select ref 1...that means "where should i go when you press 1)
if your main menu is like mine, you want to go tot the beginning of your movie....click next to it and selecto your first chapter of the movie (selection-m1-0)
where it says select ref 2...put where youd like it to go....probably the chapter index menu....(smenu-1)
now do the same for the second menu....
when you press one...go to Selection-m1-0 NOTICE THEY WILL ALL 1 BEHIND...THATS ALL GOOD YO!!
for the last number, when you run out of reference points, you can tell it to go to "endlist"
Guess What.....
YOU ARE DONE!!!
after all the chapters are in there, and all the menus are pointing to their appropriate spots...just click create cue/bin
your done
you burn that cue as a cdimage and you have a working vcd with chapters and menus that can be advanced by numbers or <<, >>.
to find out how to burn the bin files go to
http://www.vcdhelp.com/burnbin.htm
your done
IVE DONE IT, IT WORKS!!!
if you have questions let me know...
I AM NEW AT THIS TOO...only been doin this VCD stuff for like a year....only made a couple of menus with chapters....hopefully this is good for all of you
IF AT least one person gets their to work it was worth the 20 minutes i took to do this
i understand shit gets tough...but its not too bad once youve done it
give it a shot

Marty,
I can just say this : THANK YOU !
This is exactly the kind of information I've been looking for. (In the meantime, themamboman helped me a lot so thanks to him too).
You did well, and I appreciate you took the time to write this long and valuable post !
THanks again.

Any chance that this could be added to the How To section as a guide with some screen shots?? i got lost half way down
-
The easiest way to do screen shots is to press Print Screen on the screen that you want to do a screenshot of. Open Microsoft Paint and say Edit-Paste. Cut down to what you need and save as a JPG. If you need a place to host the images, you can email them to mikewg@hotmail.com and I'll post them on my page for you. I'd LOVE to have screen shots through this, let me know if you take screen shots so I can print it out and add it to my archives.
-
do i need some program to do it? id assume so....just tell me and ill get it...im sure i can
then ill have the shots and shit done within a day

The print screen feature is built into Windows, so no, you don't need another program..
I'm not sure if all Windows versions have this feature, XP does, but try it out. To capture a specific window on your screen, make sure it's the active window, and press Alt-PrintScreen. This will save you a considerable amount of time cropping all your screen shots. Pressing PrintScreen alone captures the entire desktop, as mikewg said.
There are also a lot programs that do screen capture and offer some more options than the PrintScreen in Windows - many are free. Go to download.com, hotfiles.com, etc. -

You're welcome.
Hey, has anyone tried the motion menu feature of TSCV? I tried it and I get black squares where the motion thumbnails should be. I thought it might be due to hardware acceleration in Windows Media player and turned it off, but I'm still having the problem.
Anyone know?

DAMN! when i play the SVCD on my standalone it doesnt play! it just shows a blue screen, but when i play the clips from the MPEG2 folder on my computer, they play. whats the go? i know my DVD player can play vcd/svcd and cd/cdr/cdrw/dvd
whats going on.????? -
WTF this is bullshit. everything works OK until i burn the stupid image, then i find out all these fecking cuesheet errors, i get 2 or 3 errors when i open the bloody cueshit in fireburner. wtf's the go. this is annoying the crap out of me.
-
ok....try a different program...i use nero 5.5 to burn all the cue's
i never get warnings in the burning programs, however TSCV gives me warninings all the time, however...it always works
thats my only suggestion....go get nero or CDRDAO
give it a shot, let me know

i am! i keep getting these stupid DAO errors, in both CDRWin and NERO!@!!!!! this is nuts, im getting a different error every time.
-
also when i add the MPG file to the thing in TSCV, it asks for VFAPI-avi. Whats that?
-

You have to uncheck the vfapi avi option in the settings tab. It is for people who have taken an mpeg, run it through dvd2avi to create a d2v file made a small vfapi avi from the d2v file. It makes it easier for some programs to get at the individual frames in an mpeg2 file if you don't have mpeg 2 codecs installed.
Try burning with fireburner (use v1.06 instead of 2.0) and burn as track at once, instead of session at once. It works great for me.
-
Use VCDImager <argh> Of course I mean CDRDAO ! <argh> to burn *.BINs with
I tried using NERO a few times with bin images I'd created with tscv and it seemed to burn OK but never played properly. The same bin/cue burned via VCDImager <actually CDRDAO - not VCDImager - that's what makes the BIN/CUE> played faultlessly.

that d2v-vfapi thing is so, if you want to take your pictures for you menu, from the movie itself, you can do that under the chapters tab
it will allow you to scroll through the movie and export pics into ms paint
well thats all it is...if you wanna use it, do as posted above...you dont need it though

I'm not sure about the command line vcdimager, but the TSCV front end has an option to use cdrdao to burn the cue/bin. It requires a download of the cdrdao binary though. I haven't tried it. Fireburner works just fine ...
TheMamboMan -
I'm slightly confused... do you burn the BIN and CUE files on their own, and then burn your MPG files and everything to the CD... or do you burn the MPG files and the BIN and CUE all at the same time when making a VCD?
-
The bin and cue files already contain the info you need to get a vcd. just create the bin and cue files from the mpeg's and then burn the bin and cue. load the cue and off you go.
