  1. Marty,
I have followed your seemingly GREAT tutorial to the letter. But when I get to the step where you are supposed to double-click on your MPEG file to bring up the Chapters tab, I get an error message:
    "ist kein gultiger Gleitkommawert.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

  2. hey, thank you

and i believe the error comes a couple of things

if you have the Enable Media Player on Chapter-tab
or the Enable VFAPI-avi for menu work box checked off in the settings tab, and you do not load the VFAPI-avi when it askes you (after you load the mpg) you will get this error...if you are following my guide, and are not using the menu generator to make your menus, then dont worry about the error.

to see if this is the case, CHECK THOSE TWO BOXES, then go to the menu tab, click on your mpg....after you get the error, just say yes, or continue, whatever it says....it should take you tot he chapter tab

go back to the SETTINGS tab and see if the boxes automatically unchecked themselves, if they did, then dont worry...go ahead with what you are doing, follow the rest and everything should be ok

if the problem persists, go to the ttool site....ask someone there translate the error

im going to be outta town for the next 4 days, so i hope this helps

i am also coming out with a guide for motion menus, hopefully to be done by today

  4. Marty,
I have followed your guide completely and successfully created the BIN/CUE files. However, when I loaded the CUE file in Nero5.5 and checked the File info, it gave me 4 tracks with a file size of 490MB each (the size of my original Mpeg movie). And of course Nero would not burn it because 1960MB would not fit on a 750MB CDR. Am I missing something here? Any help is very much appreciated.

  5. I bet you are using nero 5.5.4.0. this version is crap - it does not read the cue file properly. Try load the bin file and select dao or better still like I did, go back to version 5.5.3.5. I you don't want to use nero, cdrwin / fireburner are good alternatives.

  6. That's right I'm using Nero 5540. OK, I'll go back to 5535 and test again. Thanks for the help.

I believe TTool said that was a bug in the latest release and that he has fixed it in the realease that will come in a few days. it has something to do with not finding the first chapter.

  11. I have successfully burned the CUE file using Nero5.5.3.5
Looks great but how do you make it to Autoplay? I have to press the Previous button once to go to the Mainmenu. And the second menu (chapter index) has a time limit of 5 sec and after that plays the first chapter automatically. When I press the Stop button on any chapter, it does not go back to the second menu (Chapter index), it goes to the blue screen on my TV. It should return me back to the Chapter index menu I suppose. But pressing the Previous button returns me back to the Main menu. Any help is appreciated.

yeah i kept getting bloody german errors, and it was pissing me off, so i went to

    babelfish.altavista.com

and typed the error there, and selected translate from german to english. in the translation, the only part i could make out was something about illegal floating point decimal. i guess that helped abit.

  13. if you are making your motion menu or using the menu generator that may be the error that your getting (what sunmiztres said)

I had the same problem !! all I done was to untick the DISABLE Enable VFAPI-AVI FOR MENU-WORK.
You will find this on the setup tab.

PS I also had loads of problems with menus not working correctly, I traced this to my old CRDRW's being scratched.... worked ok on data & audio but give me lots of VERY strange errors on VCD's XVCD's SVCD's & XSVCD's.

Took me weeks to find out what was going on hope this helps

when it asks you for the avi that is when you are trying to make the motion menu using vfapi. using vfapi helps alot when you are having rpoblems with just the media player. when it asks you for the avi find the avi you created with vfapi unless you are skipping that step.

follow the guide 100% and you can't go wrong.

  19. I'm interested in learning how to put menu's and chapters on a VCD also but I am not useing the same software that most of ya'll are like TMPGENC and so on. So far I have had good sucess using VideoWave 4.0 to edit and encode to Mpeg 1 VCD format and I'm using CD Extreme burning software. What I'm wondering is if there's a way that I could be sure to substuite my software names into your instructions on doing this. I appreciate the time you took to post this tutorial but I'm not familiar enough with the programs you used to understand where to substuite in the ones I use. Would it maybe be possible to put ( ) around the software names that are interchangable if they are interchangable? Just a thought, Thanks, Questor569

  20. im a basically new at this stuff...ive only been doin it for a year...im only 19 so i havent been around it for too long

from the start ive been using tmpgenc, i have no idea how to use those programs that you use so i would have no way to let you know

the programs listed...tmpgenc, tscv, virtualdub, vfapi, and vcdimager are wonderful programs

this is the only way i know how to do menus....you can use whatever you want in the beginning to create your mpg but after that, you should give these a shot

you dont have to be a master at any of them....but you need like 1 or 2 things from each to get the job done

its really not hard and they are all freeware...you should give it a shot

im still waiting for the universal ripping, converting and menu making program....

    give it a shot

  22. I followed the directions on the site and everything was great...I just have a problem when it tries to create the bin/cue. Does anyone know what this means???

I copied the mpeg off the vcd so I could try and make another vcd out of it with menu's. I am using tscv .74 and also tried .73.

Here is the output I get when I try to create me bin/cue. It seems to get through the menu's, but screws up on the mpeg movie file.

"mpeg scan: pack header code (0x000001ba) expected, but 0x52494646 found (buflen = 2324)
...this looks like a RIFF header but a plain multiplexed program stream was required.
input mpeg stream has been deemed invalid -- aborting "

I really don't know exactly what that means but try demuxing and then mux with bbmpeg and see if that helps.

when you say link togther what do you mean? You could put a extro saying insert the next disk in that series. YOu could put a menu at the end with a chapter off of each disk so you know what part is on what disk. If that's what you mean by linking them together then yes it can be done.

yes intros and extros work great for me.
when you say you can't get them tom work for you do you mean that when you insert the disk it automatically goes to the menu? Do they work on your computer? I have never had a problem with intros or extros. I know alot of people report that the extro never shows up but when i had that problem ttool told me to put extro as my default for the mpeg and all the chapters within the mpeg and when i did that it worked. how many mpegs are you putting on 1 disk? you might have to put extro for all chapters and mpegs. I don't know if that will affect anything else though.

your backfground menu is not showing up? Hmmm. is this with a still or motion? i have never had a problem with a motion but sometimes when i would add a still and then patch it, it would be black. i really don't know what was causing it but it was some kind of overlay problem. i would usually restart the computer and then do nothing but patch it and it would work so i am guessing there was some kind of codec conflict of some sort.

is virtualdub still running when you are doing this? If so try it without. Don't have any other media software running when doing this. HOpefully this will help if not report back or email me.
