what settings do i need to rip hybrid?

hi everyone. i'm trying to make a copy of a dvd that is a hybrid (jumps back and forth between progressive and interlaced). can somebody tell me the settings i need in dvd2avi and tmpgenc to get this movie to vcd correctly? for some reason i can never get this to work. thanks.

I would recommend that you framesevre it into the encoder with avisynth. Over at doom's in the avisynth forum you can find a filter called "GreedyHMA.dll" this is the best adaptive de-interlacer that I've seen. I've had really good results doing hybrid video/film with this. Hope it helps!!

try this first...if it works, then this will be much easier

first of all, look at the video type, NOT frame type.... is the video type mostly FILM???? (i.e. 90% FILM or greater) if it is, try turning ON force film in dvd2avi.

in tmpgenc, encode the rip as 23.976 fps + 3:2 pulldown. in the filters section, enable the de-interlace filter. best de-interlace filter (in my opinion) is blend (adaptive) or double (adaptive), depending on which version of tmpgenc you're using.

after you're done w/ the rip, view it and c if it looks normal. if it is jumpy, then this way will not work.

btw....your encode time should increase more than normal because the adaptive de-interlace will require more CPU usage....

also, this method worked for beauty and the beast, which is also a hybrid, but was 99% FILM.

I don't quite understand what a hybrid is, but my daughter got 2 copies of Beauty and the Beast special edition for her birthday,dvd and vhs, neither is watchable on my equipment, only way to watch this movie was to rip with smartripper and encode in dvd2svcd with tmpgenc. Also vhs tape has an unusual blue colored door on it, has anyone else had trouble viewing the original movies ?
