  1. hey all, I'd really appreciate some help.

anyways, I have this divx movie I downloaded. Originally the file would play in windows media player but with no sound. Then someone on doom9 suggested that the file was encoded with AC3 and that I needed to somehow load an ac3 decoder (via nimo codec pack- which I believe includes one as a direct show filter) to play with sound. I did so, loading the AC3 Decoder Direct Show Filter found in Nimo Codec Pack, and now the file plays with sound.

Now, onto my dilemma: I wanted to import this file into Tmpeg to encode to mpeg2 to get it onto dvd. However, when I opened in tmpeg, it showed up as having NO AUDIO SOURCE. SO, back to the forum I went, and this time someone suggested uncompressing the audio stream first with virtualdub. (I've done this before- selecting "direct stream copy" for the video and "full processing mode" for audio- setting the compression to PCM, NO COMPRESSION). I tried this in Vdub, using those same settings.

HOWEVER, I get error message when I try to save the avi- "ACM FAILED TO SUGGEST AUDIO DECOMPRESSOR"

What the heck does that mean, and how do I get around this problem?

    ALL ADVICE APPRECIATED

Save the audio Direct stream copy. Change the filename to have .ac3 extension. Convert this to wav using something like HeadAC3he or Besweet.
