  1. It's time to buy a portable dvd player and I can't find apex brand
    anywhere?

So I went to their website and only one model out of the original 3 is available. I then went to walmart.com and they don't even sell them anymore.

    So what happened?
    Do you know?

    Thanks in advance

  3. At Walmart.com, they shows a $200 portable, and review said it play all sort of disc and format. The brand is initial, and they have a web site too, that show portable with bigger screen that cost slightly more.

I find this topic VERY intriguing. Is there a portable player that will play VCD's on CDR's???? it would be really cool to take my VCD's with me when I am working out of town and watch them on a portable player. I'm sure several workmates of mine would be appreciative as well, having movies to watch at night rather than going out spending our hard-earned cash on alcohol

Im in the UK by the way

  6. If you only want VCD playback, you can get Discman's that will play CD's, MP#'s, and VCD's. They run as low as $50 on ebay and have IR remotes and all. Run on 2 AA batteries. For christmas, I am going to ask for one of those and 4" portable TFT TV (with tuner) I found for only $89. So that's less than $150 for a vcd player and tv tuner. You can't go wrong.

  7. so lars you should can that idea and go with the initial dvd player that walmart has its only $197 and has a 4 inch screen.

I looked into those discman style players and I canned the idea because the screen can't run on batteries. I even email them at www.mp3playerstore.com to find out.

    Hope this helps

  8. I wanted a TV tuner as well, but now I'm not sure. Do these initial players have video in? I wanted to use it for my gamecube as well. The portable 4" TV I was looking at is battery operated also. This way I can watch TV, Watch a VCD, listen to music, or play video games all with the same unit. Thanks for the help,

  9. LOL

Having a video in was a requirement of mine. Not for video game but for pcdjing.

    Check it out on www.walmart.com

I went to the website of initial www.shinco.com
and found out that the 1710 model has video input/output switch so I am assuming that the 1810 has the switch as well. I am not sure but check it out I am not going to buy the small one so I really didn't investigate it.

    Hope this helps

  10. The Apex models I have seen you don't want - bad screen display (too washed out, can't adjust via controls) and the disc compatibility was bad.

I ended up with the Audiovox 1680 - Target stores carry iit and they have sales every now & then. It plays VCD, CVD, SVCD, etc. Has video in & out (rca + svideo). Price runs around $400 +- $50 - it isn't like the high end machines (a bit bigger) but price is good for what it does. It also has a region hack.

I suggest you take some test discs to the store with you - if they say you can't try it then don't consider buying it unless their return policy is good.
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
