  1. I've done this many times, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be working now:

    1) rip elementary streams of one of my DVD's (.m2v & .ac3)

    2) convert .ac3 audio to .mp2 audio (44.1k, 224kbps, stereo)

    3) MPLEX/mux the .m2v and .mp2 in MMT or FFMPEGX to generic MPEG-2 VBR

Never had a problem with this before, but now it quits almost immediately with error messages/warnings about too many dropped frames.

I then tried ripping the program stream off the DVD (.vob) and demuxing that. When I tried to demux, it failed (but I don't remember why).

At some point (don't remember during which process), I get errors that there's no header found?! Anyone seen this before?

  2. You never mentioned re-encoding the m2v to a lower bitrate.
What are you making, dvd or svcd?

  3. I should have explained myself better. This is my usual process:

    1) rip dvd --> elementary streams
    2) convert .ac3 --> .mp2
    3) remux .mp2 & .m2v
    4) use mpgtx to split muxed .mpg between two chapters somewhere near the middle of the movie
    5) AfroPic each split .mpg to either SVCD, XSVCD, or XVCD (depending)
    6) create .xml with MissingMenuGen
    7) create .img's with MMT
    8) burn with Toast

This is the method that has always worked best for me for backing up DVD's onto two CD's, with in-sync audio, and with being able to create the split exactly where I want it. Strangely, step #3 doesn't seem to be working this time.

  4. With frame drop warnings, are you sure you used xsvcd or dvd on the re-mux?

  5. Well, I tried remuxing as (generic) mpeg2, but I got the frame drop warnings. So then I remuxed as DVD, which worked, but then when I tried to split with mpgtx, it wouldn't work because it said something about "failed - no header in file"...
