  1. I nearly bought a Canopus ADVC1394 and would like to convert Hi-8 and DV tapes to VCD or DVD. All comments on the subject softwares, particularly on function and user-friendly aspects.

I used Vegas through the trial period (7 days)and was impressed enough to purchase. I did find a good deal, but unfortunately, the retail box has still not arrived as of yet so I have had to delay my education until it's arrival. Although I am using this time to read the manual.

It is said of Vegas that it is more intuitive, well thought out and more stable. It is said of Premeire that it is more widely used and has more plugins or can work in conjunction with many other specialty programs for effects and transitions.

    Good Luck!

  3. I use Vegas 3.0 for home movies from Sony DV camcorder, on P4 1.8 pc, and it creates high quality mpeg-2 video format output files. i use my dvd to put the mpg files to dvd+rw disks. No complaints and intuitive interface... best most fluid on the market.

only downfall ... Divx codec is NOT supported. AVI files in DIVX format cannot be used in Vegas ... too bad.

    otherwise, worth the price tag.

i found no problems opening DiVX files at all (i sure think so anyway -- havnt had to many DIVX files through here) --- only thing i found is that import of all mpeg files requires they be multiplexed -- even with no audio with the video ..
