EDIT: I got things all figured out gues I should have tried a few more things before I posted this.

SORRY MAJOR EDIT to my original post (think I figured some of this out and the first post was poorly written):

This is my first progressive scan unit. With my older Toshiba SD1200 I could play any movie I rented. I am sure they will run on the DVD724AT just fine when not in Progressive Scan mode. Now my questions are this:

1) What can be played using the progressive scan mode?

2)I was testing using the PC composite input and I realized this is not the connection for progressive scan so the picture goes blank, when I force progressive scan so I assume since the progressive signal can only go out on the component video output this explains why the picture went blank on my PC. Is this correct?

3)I have the mode set to auto select progressive or interlaced and my TV supports both Interlaced and progressive scan so that should work I think. Is this the correct set-up ?

In reading the reviews on the Philips DVD724AT there is a reference to a Hack to change the country code to ZERO. What does this do and is it something I would want to do? I am in the USA if that makes a difference. EDIT: On the Hack board I found the answer to this question sorry should have realized that "Zero" meant region free. Since MY TV only handles NTSC looks like this will be of little use to me but interesting

Thanks
