    Hi, guys/gals.

I 'just got here'. I tried searching FAQ and Guides for an answer to my question with no success.

I am brand new as far as DVD knowledge is concerned.

All I am concerned with is recording TV cable programs on blank DVD+R discs for part of a shut-in program. My question is about disc speed. Do I need 16X to record TV, or is 8X enough?

Reason I ask is that most JVC Taiyo Yuden are 8X, and that got me to thinking.

As I said, I am a complete newbie, and don't even know which brand is likely to give the best result.

    Any guidance appreciated.

    Bob

Record with a desktop dvd recorder? Or burn recorded material on your computer dvd drive?

    Sorry for lack of clarity.

No computer involved. Recording from TV cable to DVD using a Toshiba DVD recorder. I guess that means desktop.

DVD Recorders are 1x record (real time)...no need to worry about the speed rating on DVD blanks...just buy good ones like Taiyo Yuden.
