  1. Alright, I usually use CCE in combination with DVD2SVCD to make very nice SVCDs, but now I have a need to create a VCD, but I hate the output of TMPGEnc using the default templates. Does anybody have a tried and true template that will give me decent quality WITHOUT the nasty pixelization? Or are there any particular settings that I should play with to get rid of blockiness?

if you want the VCD to be compatible with the most possible DVD players you should use the default settings, except you could change the motion search precision to high or highest. next setting to play with is 2 Pass VBR instead of CBR but it will no longer be a standard VCD. i use bitrate settings of 1 minimum, 2520 maximum and 1150 average (or less if i need to fit more than 80 minutes on a disc) and my VCDs look pretty good.

  3. You can also change the GOP to 30 frames. (10 P=frames, 2 B-frames)
Otherwise, the default VCD template is very good. If you don't like the video, then VCD is not for you.

  4. Try Sefy's "Enhanced Video-CD for NTSC or PAL. It uses TMPGenc's wizard for setting highest bitrate to fill CD and results in a very good MPEG-1 copy. You can find it in the TOOLS section.

Also KWAG's KVCDx2 makes a very good copy, but you have to compute factors to fill CD (I am trying to figure out how to use "Predictor" to do this).
