    Let's say the I composite one DV movie on top of a black frame, to turn 16x9 into letterbox. To use this file in apps like iMovie, I need to export to DV stream, which puts everything in one layer. Is there no way to simply play the movie out to firewire, maintaining my new composited shape?

    A commercial plugin called Echo Fire lets you do this. A bit pricey though...
