  2. thats not very much is it?

you better forget the dvd thing and stick with
    vhs,discs alone will break you...

Yet alone the cost of better software...

maybe in a couple years when the burners are
under a 100$us,that is you can come back

My advice for anyone on a budget and thinking of a DVD burner is to wait for a while until the price goes down. I am doing this myself waiting for the right time to buy it.

Another reason for the wait is greater improvement of these DVD burners generally. They are currently too slow and I have noticed some people are having problems with some DVD burner software and Sony's DVD burner, DRU500A.

I rather wait until things settle down and hopefully a lot cheaper in the future.

  5. I used the currency converter at xe.com and got this result:

250.00 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 395.259 USD United States Dollars

    1 GBP = 1.58104 USD 1 USD = 0.632497 GBP

So according to that you can get pretty much any burner. There aren't many burners over $350. The type of burner you get really dpends on the type of media you want to burn(-R/W, +R/w, or RAM). You'll probably want an R/W, but the - or + depends on the DVD player you plan on playing them in. They have a DVD player compatability list on this site. You can check it out to see what format your player supports.
