  1. Im from the Philippines and purchased my drive when i went to the USA. It was working fine until i had the face colored black. Now, it doesnt want to read/write DVDs but it can however, still read/write CDs/CD-r.

I need to find a repair manual wherein it shows the inside of the drive (schematics) so that our local repairman here can fix it. I cant send it back to where i bought it because i have no plans of going to the US in the near future and sending it via mail is out of the question...

    HELP!

  3. Hey for anyone that reads this the above link works I ordered manuals. One problem they didn't have the pioneer dvr-A04 manual, they have pioneer A-104 which is different! Damn I feel dumb!!!!!!!!!! If you need a manual call pioneer.

  4. The 104 and the A04 are the same drive, the difference is the A04 comes bundled with fitting kit and software. But I am pretty sure the drives themselves are identical.

  5. You may messed already up the optics. If you did apply paint on the cover, the vapour most likely generate particals and stick on the optics.

There is slight chances that you can use a cleaning disc ( such as maxell ) to clean off the fume particals. Otherwise you need to send it back to Pioneer to repair.

The equipment to alignment the optics is cost about a million dollars or more. It is not a locally available operation.

  6. i dont think the lens was contaminated by paint as the faceplate was removed prior to painting. also, if it were contaminated, wouldnt the reading/writing of CDr be affected as well? please correct me if im wrong as its driving me nuts to figure out what went wrong.

As of now, logic points to misalignment of the lens due to mishandling perhaps. (bumpy road) or something. Im just at a dead end now and it would really help if i could get hold of a repair manual so that technicians here in the philippines can get a hint on how to repair the unit

sending it back to the USA for repair might not be an economical solution. the cost of freight (back and forth), insurance as well as the risk that during transit, mishandling might occur which would again misalign the lens.
